The Winter King Episode 3 Review: A Tale of Two Main Characters

The Winter King Episode 3 is a solid entry in the series, with some good character development and a cliffhanger ending. The episode focuses on Arthur, who is now in charge of Dumnonia after the death of Queen Norwenna. Arthur is a complex and interesting character, and the show does a good job of exploring his motivations.

On the one hand, Arthur is a good man who wants to unite the warring British kingdoms against the Saxons. He is also a compassionate leader who tries to avoid violence whenever possible. On the other hand, Arthur is also ambitious and power-hungry. He is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, even if it means bending the rules.

In Episode 3, Arthur is faced with a difficult decision. He has captured Gundleus, the man who killed Queen Norwenna and raped Nimue. Gundleus is a powerful and dangerous man, and Arthur knows that he could be a valuable asset in the fight against the Saxons. However, Arthur also knows that Gundleus is a terrible person who deserves to be punished.

In the end, Arthur decides to imprison Gundleus instead of killing him. This decision is met with disapproval from Nimue, who wants to see Gundleus executed. However, Arthur believes that imprisoning Gundleus will give him the leverage he needs to unite the British kingdoms.

It is not yet clear whether Arthur’s decision was the right one. Only time will tell if he will be able to use Gundleus to defeat the Saxons. However, one thing is for sure: Arthur is a complex and fascinating character, and I am looking forward to seeing how his story develops in future episodes.

Other Thoughts on The Winter King

  • I agree with the reviewer that the production values of the show are not particularly high. The blurred backgrounds are a noticeable distraction, and the costumes and sets can look a bit cheap at times. However, I am willing to overlook these flaws because the story and characters are so engaging.
  • I am really enjoying the relationship between Arthur and Derfel. The two men are very different, but they have a deep respect for each other. I am curious to see how their friendship will develop as the series progresses.
  • I am also interested to see how the relationship between Arthur and Nimue will change. The two characters are clearly drawn to each other, but their personalities are very different. I am not sure if they will be able to overcome their differences and build a lasting relationship.

Overall, I think The Winter King is a promising new series. It has a compelling story, interesting characters, and a cliffhanger ending that leaves me wanting more. I am definitely looking forward to watching future episodes.
